On October 19, my class and I went on a field trip to CTAHR in Waimānalo. We learned about the variety of plants that they grow and what they are used for towards the society. The plants that were grown are native to our culture. We walked around the area and noticed that there were many bugs that were on the plants. They use organic pesticides to keep the plant healthy and safe enough to use. This field trip was fun because we learned about native plants, how they are used, and we could see the beauty in Waimānalo. This place was so unique that it had every color plumeria you could think of.

Food SovereigntyThere are SEVEN principles of food sovereignty:
1. Food: A Basic Human Right: It is a constitutional right of have access to food. All people must have safe and culturally appropriate food in sufficient quality and quantity to sustain a healthy life with full human dignity. 2. Agrarian Reform: This is necessary to rectify the whole system of agriculture. It is done by the government to redistribute amounts of land. 3. Protecting Natural Resources: The people taking care of farms must have the right to practice sustainable management on natural resources. 4. Reorganizing Food Trade: Food is a source of nutrition and an item of trade. Policies regulate to prioritize production for food sustainability. 5. Ending the Globalization of Hunger: Food may be a scarce source and we should hold back on eating a lot before one day there is no more food. 6. Social Peace: People have the right to be free of violence. Increasing poverty doesn't help with the food population. The more people are in poverty, the more people will be starving. 7. Democratic Control: Many organizations are used to regulate food policies within their country. Everyone must make safe decisions about their food in order for it to be accessible for everyone. |
My table and I were assigned an indoor system which consists of lettuce and peppers. Recently, we have planted the ʻānuenue lettuce in rocks and containers. If you take a look on the slideshow to the left, you can see the growth between the date located on the left top corner. It has been more than a week since the first picture and the plant has grown a lot.
